Nantahala Gorge Scenic Byway
A Scenic Drive Along the Nantahala River
This North Carolina Scenic Byway travels US 74 from Bryson City to Marble and takes travelers through 43 miles of the Nantahala National Forest, with 20 miles of it passing through the scenic Nantahala Gorge. The scenery through the Gorge is some of the best in the country. You’ll find picnic areas and pull-offs along the river, including Ferrebe. where you can observe whitewater rafting or gain access for fishing.
Stop at the Nantahala Outdoor Center to watch the river fun or enjoy a riverside lunch at Big Wesser or River’s End.
After approximately 8 miles along the river, look for the sign indicating a raft launch site. This is Wayah Road, and will be on your left. A short drive on this road will take you to the Upper Nantahala Cascades.
